A free bass tuner that reads down to a low B

Tuner

Loading the tuner.

Free to use, with no account. It listens only while it’s on, and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere.

A chromatic tuner made for the bass. It reads right down to the low B of a five string, and shows you the note two ways: a needle for getting close, and a strobe for getting it exact.

It’s the tuner from the Shed, the set of practice tools my pupils get in the member portal. It’s free to use here. Your browser will ask to use the microphone the first time.

What it does

Made for low strings

Pluck one string gently over the neck and let it ring. The note shows as soon as it settles.

  • Chromatic

It names whatever note you play, and shows how far sharp or flat you are.

  • Needle and strobe

The strobe drifts right when you’re sharp, left when you’re flat, and stands still when you’re in tune.

  • Four, five and six strings

B, E, A, D, G and C are each marked off as you tune them.

  • Your reference pitch

A = 440, or anywhere from 438 to 444. The drone uses the same one, so the two always agree.

  • Private

It listens only while it’s on, and the sound never leaves your phone.

More tools

There’s more in the Shed

The metronome, the drone and the tuner are free for anyone to use. They come from the Shed, the practice space in the member portal that everyone who has sessions with me gets. In there they sit alongside a practice diary, a habit tracker, a tempo tracker, a recorder and a shelf of backing tracks, and it all works as an app on your phone.
